The Chantrys Community

Working in partnership...

Following on from the success of our fortnightly Kidz Klub, which runs at Potters Gate School, in 2009 the church was invited to get involved with the community living on The Chantrys in Farnham. As a result, Amber Delves was appointed as a Community Outreach Worker, funded jointly by the church and by Waverley Borough Council.  Since her appointment she has been the catalyst in an exciting community development project.

Since then a number of activities have begun. There are football and art clubs run by the residents association. The Chantrys Chattabox for mums and toddlers runs on Wednesday mornings, followed by the Chantrys Youth Group on Wednesday evenings, and there are IT classes for lone parents taking place on Friday mornings.

We run ‘The Chantrys Weekend’ once a year around the May Bank Holiday, in 2011 we ran the event in conjunction with the Royal Wedding.  Saturday is a ’social action’ day, when various jobs are done around the estate, as requested by residents. On the Sunday afternoon we hold a Fun Day, with activities, food and fun for all ages.

We also run a Chattabox on The Chantrys.  It is a fun, friendly place to bring your pre-school age children from 10am 'til 11:30 on a Wednesday morning. Come and let them play while you have a cuppa and a chat with friends old and new! Find out more...

We work in partnership with Waverley Borough Council and The Chantrys Residents Association who manage the Chantrys Community Hall.

Jubilee Church’s contribution to the Chantrys

"Anyone who has recently visited the Chantrys and talked to its residents will soon gain the understanding that this estate continues to grow positively towards a thriving community.

For a few years now, the efforts put in by different organisations and the residents themselves have laid strong foundations from which a promising future is beginning to materialise. Crime levels have fallen, more opportunities for residents have opened up and the general environment has improved.

Waverley Borough Council, Farnham Town Council, Surrey County Council, Surrey Police, First Wessex Housing, Surrey Fire & Rescue, the Chantrys & Byworth Residents Association and others have all played their part.

However, the contribution of Jubilee Church has been invaluable in a number of ways, by facilitating a number of projects which have created real opportunities for residents of all ages on this estate. Jubilee Church’s provision of a Community Development Worker, Amber Delves, has enabled a vital presence within the community to promote healthy living, activities for young people, estate clean-up days, fun days, help and advice. This has acted as a focus for the whole community and given the many residents who are now engaging a sense of achievement, responsibility and shared values."
