Our History
The first steps...
For many years Newfrontiers ran a very successful summer Bible camp called Stoneleigh Bible Week. Over 20,000 people, young and old, camped for a week in the summer and spent time in worship, teaching and training seminars, as well as recreational time getting to know others from their own church and other churches around the world.
In 2001 there was a sense that God was saying to stop Stoneleigh, change direction and instead focus on establishing new churches around the UK and the world. Many new churches were ‘planted’ in the UK and Jubilee Church Farnham was one of them.
In January 2002 a small group of Christians, who had been involved in Newfrontiers churches in other towns in Surrey, began meeting together in homes in Farnham to pray. Led initially by Mark Landreth-Smith, the leader of The Beacon Church in Camberley, the small group was supported and encouraged by him and the Beacon Church.
Leaders were identified and the small group grew until it was necessary in September 2002 to start meeting on Sunday mornings at Farnham Sixth Form Collage - Jubilee Church Farnham was established! During 2003 a church membership was established and a separate charitable trust to handle the church finance. Jubilee Church became part of Churches Together in Farnham and members of the Evangelical Alliance, embracing the Evangelical Alliance Basis of Faith.
and then...
In 2004 four elders were appointed (Sean Gubb, Bob Peet, Dave Berry and Ken Johnson) and the responsibility for the church was handed from the Beacon Church to this group.
Since 2004 the Church has grown numerically and grown in its relationships with the other churches Farnham and the surrounding area. It has taken on various members of staff and in 2006 Jubilee moved its Sunday meetings to Weydon School. In 2009 Jubilee Church established offices and midweek activities in Weydon Christian Centre.
In 2010 Ken Johnson stood down from eldership and moved to Cambridge and Ric Garvey was appointed an elder. In 2011 the legal status of the church changed from a Charitable Trust to a Charitable Company and Jubilee Church became custodians of Weydon Christian Centre.
With a passionate commitment to build the church according to New Testament principles, we believe that the most effective form of evangelism is worked out through strong vibrant local churches where the Bible is applied, each member participates, the gifts of the Holy Spirit are encouraged, where people care for one another and where there is a desire to make a difference in society and to reach those in need. Along with Newfrontiers as a whole, we aim to achieve this by restoring the church, making disciples, training leaders, planting churches and reaching the nations for Christ.
