Jesus - the Great, High Priest

The prevalent Jewish way of atoning for sin in Jesus time was by animal sacrifice through the high priest. Steve shows us how there was a better way: Jesus was better than the Jewish high priests in many ways but, in particular, because He was without sin, despite temptation by satan! Jesus is the one-off sacrifice for all time, for us, for all our sin. Jesus is The, Great, High Priest. Steve explains how we can be confident of this and how we can apply the truth of it to our lives.

Let Us Enter That Rest That Only Jesus Can Give

After the dedication of three children of church members, Steve took us with sureness through chapters 3 and 4 of Hebrews. We should seek 'the rest' of God that is provided by the perfection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Steve illustrated his talk with a clip from The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and Ian and Paula aided by singing that very pertinent and wonderful song 'In Christ Alone'.

Dave continued our journey through Hebrews with a comprehensive look at Chapter 2. The essence of this chapter is that it is the perfection of Jesus, who was without sin, that gives us, as believers, salvation for our sins through His death on the cross.

The Better

Ric opens up Hebrews to give us a comprehensive overview of Chapter 1. It's all about Jesus; look to Jesus for all your needs and keep on looking to Jesus. We are urged to avoid purely-intellectual knowledge or understanding of Jesus and to know Him in our hearts from deep, personal, on-going relationship. There is much on angels in Chap 1 after only 4 verses on Jesus but when, the two are compared, Jesus is better than all the others by a long, long way; He is the ultimate! "And God placed all things under His feet and appointed Him to be head over everything for the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills everything in every way."
