Sean's Blog: The weather was very British
Posted on: 29th August, 2011
I love holidays with my family and North Devon has become a favourite. Hayley found the campsite we went to this year and what spectacular views she found!
The weather was very British (!) and on the non-beach days we walked along the coastal path – WOW! I think it is the best coastal path I have walked – views, dangerous bits, hilly bits and surprises around every corner! Watching Theo and Reuben made me reflect on their adventure through life and what their twists and turns might be. I reflected on how I could help them with the challenges and how together we could enjoy the vistas and new horizons they will find.
I believe children so precious to the heart of God - Jesus rebuked the disciples when they kept the children away from him (Matt 19:13-14). I was really stuck when Hayley reminded us at church in the summer term how when Jesus cleared the temple of the money-changers, that the religious leaders where ‘indignant’ at the ‘wonderful things he [Jesus] did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David”’ (Matt 21:15). I had never noticed this little detail in the Gospel of Matthew. Why would they be indigent of children praising? I guess it was because the children saw who Jesus was better than they did – humbling eh?!
I think as Hayley shared on that day, she was noticing a wave building on the horizon. Since then, a number of the children’s workers have met to discuss our children’s ministry at Jubilee and the resulting inspiring programme fills me with great excitement. I believe God has brought such a talented and gifted Children’s team together in Jubilee and sense God’s timing in bringing additional people like Ivane McClenaghan and Pete Hewlett (who incidentally has been accepted on the Moorland Collage Children and School Work BA(Hons) Degree starting in September – well Done Pete!)
On Sunday 4th September we plan to outline the exciting changes in a ‘Let the Children Come’ Sunday’ – the wave is coming, we are position and the timing is right for the children to catch a new wave!
