Sean's Blog: Riding the waves
Posted on: 5th September, 2011
In Woolacombe (sorry more of my holiday!) there is the three mile long sandy ‘best beach in Britain’. The car parks are full of VW camper vans and bronzed surfers many clad in wetsuits so they can stay even longer in the water ready to catch the best waves.
Reuben and Theo were happy in the shallower water riding the waves right to where water meets sand. Sam however wanted to adventure out deeper beyond where the waves were breaking, and sit waiting for the big ones. We paddled around waiting until we could see the water building in distance. Then attempting to get in the right place at the right time, we waited until the wave was a little way off ... then as it arrived paddled frantically catch a ride. I have to say he caught more than I managed! What joy as we raced down the wave together!
Over the next few weeks I want us at Jubilee to manoeuvre ourselves into the right position to catch the wave that is coming. To that end, I plan to start the term with a mini-series entitled Amazing Grace. How we need to understand the wonderful and liberating gospel of grace – grace in relation to God, ourselves, others and our community.
We start the series on 11th September – come and be refreshed and feel the thrill and wonder of riding the next wave.
